Welcome to MFL Arena

MFL Team10 min read

Arena opens today in private beta, and the ladder is empty. Nobody has made it to Legend yet.

It's a brand-new way to play MFL, and it's fast, dynamic and a lot of fun. You open packs, build your squad and climb a ranked ladder towards Legend, where only twenty managers make it.

We built it for everyone. If you're new to MFL, it's free and there's nothing to set up: you'll be playing your first match within minutes, and it's designed to feel natural to anyone who plays games. If you've been here for years, you can jump straight in too, and even bring the pro players you already own.

The MFL you already know has a name now too: Pro Manager. Nothing about it changes: your clubs, your leagues and cups, your contracts and your seasons all carry on exactly as they are.

The two modes run on one shared economy, and they're built to feed each other. Your MFL balance works in both, every pro player you own now has a second game to play in, and Arena managers can buy him on the same marketplace you already use.

TL;DR

  • What it is: a free game mode inside MFL. You run an Arena club, coach every match in real time, and climb a ranked ladder to earn your weekly payout.
  • How to get in: a two-week private beta, invite only. Codes come from MFL content creators, our Discord and X.
  • Your Pro Manager clubs: untouched. Your Arena club is a separate club.
  • Your players: any player you own who isn't under contract can play in Arena. A player plays one mode per season: once he plays in Arena, he can't join a Pro Manager club until next season, and the other way round.
  • MFL coins: the same thing as your MFL balance. Spend them on Arena packs and pro players.
  • Rewards: weekly MFL coin payouts based on your final rank (with a minimum number of matches to qualify), a bonus the first time you reach each rank, and a Season Pass. Beta rewards are divided by 20.
  • Arena players: players from packs and rewards play in Arena only and can't be traded.
  • Player progression: your first two matches each day make your starting XI and bench progress. Play them every day for a season and your players progress about as much as in Pro Manager. During the beta, only Arena players progress.
  • After the beta: your Arena club, progress and Arena players reset. Your MFL coins, the pro players you bought and your beta cosmetics stay.

Arena and Pro Manager

Arena is a full game in its own right, with its own clubs, its own ranked ladder and its own rewards. It's easy to pick up: there's no club to buy and no season to wait for, your first match is minutes away, and a session can be as short as a single game. You can play Arena and nothing else, and it's built to work that way.

Pro Manager stays what it has always been: MFL at its deepest. Seasons unfold over weeks, every matchday takes planning, and around the pitch managers negotiate and trade in a market that never stops moving.

The two share one economy. MFL coins are the same balance in both, pro players can play in either mode, and Arena managers buy them from the same marketplace you already trade on.

Many of you have been with MFL for years. You've built clubs season after season, learned every corner of the game, and made it what it is today. We want more people to discover what you already know, and Arena is the easiest way we've ever had to show them. If it leaves them wanting more, with a club they can cherish forever, players they own outright, leagues and cups that last for entire seasons, and a bustling ecosystem where they constantly negotiate and fight it out, Pro Manager is right there, and so are you.

From nothing to kick-off in five minutes

You name your club, pick your colours and design a crest for every shirt. Then Andrea, your assistant, introduces three young players for you to scout. You sign them, choose your captain, and head out for your first match.

Your first five matches are the Path to the Arena, and each win unlocks something new: a signing, your first MFL coins, training boosts and a pack. Win the fifth and the rest of Arena opens up: the ranked ladder, weekly rewards, challenges and the Season Pass.

Coach in real time

For the first time in MFL, you coach during the match. Instead of setting your team and waiting for a result, you're on the touchline for the whole ninety minutes. Maybe your left-back keeps getting beaten, your midfielder is exhausted, or they've just equalised and the game is turning. You can react straight away with a substitution, a new formation, a higher line or a harder press.

Coaching from the dugout: your XI, your bench and your instructions, mid-match

Before every kick-off there's a two-minute countdown. You can study your opponent's squad and adjust your tactics for that game only, while your default tactic stays as it is.

The match keeps running while you coach.

If you need time to think, hit Pause. You get two minutes of pause per match, to use all at once or in short bursts.

Energy only matters within a match: players tire as they run, and your bench is how you manage it. Every match starts with a fully fresh squad.

Inside the stadium

Your stadium is in a real city, and the weather there is the weather on your pitch. If it's raining in your city, it's raining in your match, and evening kick-offs are played under floodlights. Switch to the stadium view to watch from the stands, with the camera following the ball.

Your fans sing your chant and your kop lights its flares. At half-time, a quick read of the numbers shows who's playing well, who's tiring, and whether the score reflects the game.

Build your squad

Your starting eleven is only the beginning, and there are four ways to improve it:

  • Packs. Arena packs range from 30+ to 55+, and each one guarantees a player at its rating, along with a few others.
  • Pro players. Sign the same players managers own and trade in Pro Manager, from the store and the market.
  • Playing time. Your players develop as they play.
  • Boosts. Training boosts give a player a permanent +1. Attribute and OVR boosts improve a player for a set number of matches.

How progression works

Your first two matches each day make your players progress, and everyone in your starting XI and on your bench benefits. Play those two matches every day for a whole season and your players progress about as much as they would in Pro Manager.

Players you get from Arena belong to your Arena club: they only play in Arena and can't be traded. Pro players are fully yours and fully tradable.

Climb to Legend

Everyone starts at Amateur III. Each win moves you up through Amateur, Prospect, Semi-Pro, Pro, Elite, Champion and World-Class, with three ranks in each division, and matchmaking keeps you playing sides at your level. After World-Class comes Master.

Above Master is Legend, which only has room for twenty managers: the best in the Arena.

Every Monday at 11pm CET the week closes, payouts go out, and a new week begins.

What you win

Weekly payouts

Every Monday at 11pm CET, your final rank pays out MFL coins straight into your balance, and the higher you finish, the more you earn. During the beta, first place in Legend earns 2,500 MFL coins for the week, and every Legend spot pays at least 1,000. To qualify, play the minimum number of matches that week.

Reaching a rank for the first time also pays a one-off bonus.

The Season Pass

Every match earns XP for your Season Pass, and daily, weekly and season challenges earn more. Each level unlocks a reward:

  • Your profile: avatar flair, a profile banner and a background for your Arena hub.
  • Your stadium: the ground you host matches in, your pitch, your fans' chant and the colours of your kop's flares.
  • Your club: kit patterns and sponsors to use in the Kit Maker.
  • Your celebrations: a UI theme for your goals and your winning full-time screen.
  • Your squad: packs and boosts.

A Premium track with twice the rewards arrives at launch.

Beta rewards are divided by 20.

At launch, rewards are planned to be twenty times what you see during the beta. These numbers are subject to change.

Your players and your balance

MFL coins are your MFL balance. Inside Arena it goes by MFL coins, but it's the same balance. What you earn in Arena lands there, and you can spend it in Arena on packs and pro players.

Pro players are the players you own, the ones that are fully tradable on the marketplace and that you already know and love. Every pro player can play in both Arena and Pro Manager, just not in the same season:

A player plays one mode per season.

His first match of the season decides it. Play him in Arena and he can't join a Pro Manager club until the next season starts. Play him in Pro Manager and he waits until next season for Arena. Arena warns you before you sign a pro player.

A pro player can only join your Arena squad if he isn't under contract with a club, and only when you add him yourself.

The beta

Arena opens today as a two-week private beta, and you'll be one of the first managers to play it. Here's what to expect:

  • Invite only. Codes are with MFL content creators, so follow them. We'll also drop codes on our Discord and on X throughout the beta. Once you have a code, you can be playing within minutes.
  • Pro players don't progress yet. During the beta, only your Arena players progress from matches.
  • Your Arena club resets at the end. Your progress, your rank and your Arena players are wiped when the beta closes.
  • What you earn is yours to keep. The MFL coins you earn and any pro players you buy stay with you, and so does every beta cosmetic you unlock.
  • No Premium Season Pass yet. It arrives at launch.

See you in the Arena

Arena started as an idea in June, and getting it here has taken some of the hardest weeks of work the whole team has ever put in. We're proud of how it looks and feels: dynamic, visual and genuinely fun to play. For us, it clicked the first time we went through onboarding, landed straight in a match, made a change mid-game and watched it play out.

Arena doesn't replace anything. It sits next to Pro Manager, and we think the two will make each other stronger.

Thank you to our most loyal content creators, who'll be sharing invite codes over the next two weeks, and to all of you for being here from the very start.

Grab an invite code, found your club and play your first match. We'll see you on the ladder.

The Arena is open.
