Taking Tactics to the Next Level: Introducing Player Instructions!

We’re thrilled to announce Player Instructions, the headliner feature for Season 3 in MFL! Building on the foundation of Team Instructions, this update allows managers to fine-tune their tactics at an individual player level. Player Instructions empower you to tailor each player’s behavior to suit your strategy, maximizing their strengths and contributing to your team’s overall philosophy.
This feature is a game-changer for managers who love diving deep into tactics. Let’s explore what’s new!
🎯 What Are Player Instructions?
While Team Instructions help you set broad tactical principles for how your team operates as a unit, Player Instructions give you granular control over individual players’ behaviors. Every instruction available in Team Instructions is now customizable for individual players. On top of that, we’re introducing two exciting new instructions exclusive to Player Instructions: Position Freedom and Passing Risk.
⚙️ Player Instructions Explained
Here’s what you can tweak for each player:
In Possession:
- Directness 🎯: Dictate whether they focus on short passes or attempt more direct play.
- Long Shot Tendency 🚀: Set their willingness to shoot from long range.
- Dribbling Tendency 🕺: Control how often they take on defenders.
- Crossing Tendency ❎: Adjust the frequency of crosses from wide areas.
Out of Possession:
- Aggressiveness 💥: Set how aggressively they challenge for the ball.
- Trigger Press 🛑: Decide when they initiate pressing against opponents.
- Clearances 🦵: Choose between clearing the ball or playing it out from the back.
✨ New Player Instructions
These two new instructions debut with Player Instructions, adding even more tactical depth:
Position Freedom 🎨
This instruction defines how much liberty a player has to move around the pitch. A “High” setting encourages creativity, allowing players to drift from their assigned positions to exploit space. On the other hand, a “Low” setting ensures they remain disciplined and maintain structure.
Passing Risk ⚡
This setting determines a player’s passing style. Should they play it safe, aiming to keep possession with simple passes? Or should they take risks, threading ambitious passes to unlock defenses? Balance is key, as risky passes can create opportunities but also lead to turnovers.
🤔 Why This Matters
Player Instructions are designed to let you bring your unique tactical philosophy to life. Now, you can:
- Tailor individual player behaviors to match their skillsets and roles.
- Exploit mismatches by assigning specific roles to key players.
- Create highly customized strategies for different opponents.
The possibilities are endless, whether you’re crafting a possession-heavy style, a counter-attacking machine, or something entirely your own.
🎮 How to Use Player Instructions
You can assign Player Instructions on the Tactics page by selecting an individual player. Whether you’re preparing for a league match, a tournament, or a friendly, these instructions can help you gain a tactical edge.

📅 What’s Next?
Just like Team Instructions, Player Instructions have been rigorously tested with thousands of simulated matches to ensure balance and realism. However, live matches and community feedback are invaluable to us.
