Suspension Rules in MFL: Stay Sharp on Discipline

As we gear up for Season 3, we’re introducing suspension rules to bring more realism and tactical depth to MFL. Managing your squad’s discipline will now play a critical role in achieving success. Here’s everything you need to know:

The Suspension Rules

🟨 Yellow Cards

  • Players who accumulate 5 yellow cards will receive a 1-match suspension.
  • Yellow card tallies are cumulative across both the IMFF Cup and Leagues (including promotion playoffs). This means a player earning 5 yellow cards in one competition can serve their suspension in the other.

🟥 Red Cards

  • Players receiving 1 red card, whether through a straight red or two yellows in the same match, will also face a 1-match suspension.
  • If a player receives a straight red card after a yellow in the same match, the yellow card will not count toward their cumulative yellow card tally — it will be treated as a red card.

It’s also worth noting that suspended players will recover energy just as if they rested, so everything’s not lost!

When Does the Suspension Apply?

Suspensions will apply to the team’s next scheduled match with at least 18 hours of notice, ensuring managers have time to adjust their squads. Here’s how it works:

  • If the next match is more than 18 hours away, the suspension will apply to that match.
  • If the next match is less than 18 hours away, suspended players will instead serve their ban in the following match.
  • In cases where the next match isn’t scheduled yet (e.g., between playoff rounds, between cup stages or before a cup schedule is finalized), the suspension will temporarily display a placeholder date in the UI. Once the match is created, this will update to show the exact fixture.

Season Rollover and Transfers

Rollover Day Reset

  • At the end of each season, all card tallies and suspensions will reset. This means red cards earned in the last match of the season will not carry over into the next season.

Transfers

  • If a player switches teams before serving their suspension, the suspension will be canceled for that player. However, their yellow card tally will not reset and will carry over to their new team.
  • The exception to this rule is if the player joins the opposing team (or leaves then re-joins his former team) for the match they were originally suspended for. In that rare scenario, the suspension will still apply.

How Does This Impact Strategy?

Suspensions add another layer of decision-making for managers. It’s all about managing discipline, maintaining squad depth, and planning ahead. Will you risk playing a key player who’s one yellow card away from suspension, or will you rotate to minimize risk?

Prepare for the Challenges of Season 3

With the introduction of suspensions, every decision you make as a manager carries more weight. Will your players keep their discipline under pressure, or will costly mistakes lead to bans? Prepare your squads wisely and make every match count!

Stay sharp, manage smart, and good luck out there!
