Match Plans: Adapt Your Tactics to Match Situations
Managing a football club has always been about preparation. You set your formation, pick your instructions, select your lineup, and hope it works.
But real football management is also about what you do when the game starts slipping away. When you’re chasing a goal in the 75th minute. When you’re protecting a lead. When everything you planned needs to change.

Match Plans change the game.
Starting in Season 9, you can build conditional tactical responses that trigger automatically during matches. Set the conditions. Define the changes. Let your tactics adapt to what’s actually happening on the pitch.
How It Works
Match Plans live in your Tactics page, right alongside Team Instructions and Set Pieces. Here’s the flow:
1. Create a Scenario 🆕
Give it a name. Something like “Chase Mode” or “Protect Lead” or whatever makes sense to you.

2. Set Your Conditions ⏰
Define when this scenario should trigger:
Time-based:
- Anytime
- After a specific minute (After minute 15, 30, 45, 60, 75)
Match Situation:
- All situations
- Even score
- Leading by 1+, 2+, or 3+
- Trailing by 1+, 2+, or 3+
You can combine these with AND/OR logic. Want to go all-out attack only after minute 60 AND when trailing by 1+? Done. Need a defensive shift anytime you’re leading by 2+, regardless of time? Easy.
3. Define it 💭
Once that’s done, select which Team Instruction(s) you want this Match Plan to affect and how, then save.

You’re still doing all the thinking beforehand. But now your tactics can adapt to the situations you know your team will face.
4. Activate It ✅
You can create up to 10 scenarios. Up to 5 can be active at once.
When match conditions are met, your scenarios trigger automatically at the next stoppage. You’ll see them fire in real time in the match events feed, right alongside goals and assists.
What Changes
Before Match Plans, your tactics were locked at kickoff. You prepared, you planned, and then you watched it play out. If your setup wasn’t working, you couldn’t adjust.
Now you can build in responses. Not live changes — you’re not clicking buttons in the 67th minute — but conditional instructions that trigger based on what’s happening in the match.

Trailing by a goal after 60 minutes? Your team can shift to a more aggressive attacking tendency automatically. Leading by two and want to protect it? Might want to drop deeper and control possession.
Let your Match Plan execute itself!
What’s Next
Match Plans start with team instructions, but this is just the beginning.
We’re planning to expand this system to include substitutions and more.
The goal is to give you more tools to manage matches the way real managers do. Strategically. Dynamically.
Match Plans launch in Season 9, which starts on October 7 together with Trial Clubs!
Right now, they’re available in experimental engine matches. Once Season 8 wraps up (after this weekend’s playoffs), they’ll be live in all official matches.
Head to your Tactics page and start building your scenarios!
The game just got deeper.
