Introducing Pre-Contract Agreements: A New Way to Plan Ahead

As we continue building an increasingly competitive and strategic ecosystem, we’re excited to unveil a brand-new feature launching ahead of Season 2: Pre-Contract Agreements. This addition brings fresh depth to player negotiations and gives both club owners and agents a powerful new tool to prepare for the future.

What Are Pre-Contract Agreements?

A Pre-Contract Agreement is a contract offer designed for the following season — not the active one. Think of it as a forward-looking commitment that allows clubs to plan their squads in advance and agents to strategize long-term.

When sending a contract offer, club owners will now have two options:

  1. Regular Contract Offer — The player joins your club immediately if the agent accepts.
  2. Pre-Contract Agreement — The player joins your club at the start of the next season (as soon as the transfer window opens) if the agent accepts and doesn’t cancel the agreement before it becomes effective.

How Do Pre-Contract Agreements Work?

  • Future-Oriented: When an agreement is accepted, it doesn’t take effect until the start of the next season, which coincides with the transfer window opening.
  • Flexible Until Effective: Either party (agent or club owner) can cancel the agreement unilaterally at any time before the new season begins. Once the new season starts, the agreement automatically converts into a binding contract that cannot be canceled without mutual consent.
  • No Auto-Accept: Unlike regular contract offers, Pre-Contract Agreements cannot be auto-accepted, even if the agent has set availability preferences to auto-accept offers.

Why Add Pre-Contract Agreements?

Pre-Contract Agreements are designed to enhance your experience in several ways:

  • More to Play For: Even when the current season winds down, negotiations stay exciting as you plan for the next season.
  • Advance Preparation: Clubs can start shaping their squads without waiting for the transfer window to open.
  • Better visibility on the future: This update will give you a better picture of all the types of contracts you have going for this season and next, thanks to new filters and views.
  • Strategic Depth: Adds complexity to negotiations, giving both agents and club owners new tactical decisions to make.
  • Engagement for Agents: Agents have more opportunities to negotiate deals and influence the transfer market.

When Can You Use Pre-Contract Agreements?

Pre-Contract Agreements will become available around Matchday 17 each season — approximately 10 days before the new season begins. This timing ensures plenty of activity during the later stages of the season while keeping the early season focused on current competition.

For Season 2, they’re out NOW!

Pre-Contract Agreements are another step in making MFL the most dynamic, competitive, and strategic football manager experience out there. Whether you’re an agent plotting your players’ careers or a club owner building for the future, we hope you’ll enjoy this new addition.

Start thinking ahead — Season 2 is right around the corner, and Pre-Contract Agreements are here to take your squad-building strategy to the next level.
