Club Creation is here!

Building a football club from scratch is an exciting adventure, and creating a name and logo for your team are essential components of the process. But fear not, there are best practices and conventions to keep in mind to ensure that your club’s name and logo are memorable, relevant, and unique.

Naming Your MFL Club

Choosing the right name for your club is crucial to creating a strong brand identity. Here are some best practices to consider when picking a name:

Some examples of good (and not so good) Club names

Avoid play on words, puns and any inappropriate content when naming your Club!

1. Make sure you review the guidelines

  • Pick a unique name that isn’t in use IRL, in MFL, or anywhere else
  • Do not use offensive, copyrighted, political, religious, or commercial content when naming your Club
  • Avoid special characters as they may not display properly

2. Use common acronyms in your Club’s name (or don’t)

It’s very common for clubs to include acronyms in their names to refer back to the beautiful game, such as FC, F.C., AFC, or SC to name a few. There are variants in different languages too, of course.
If you decide to go with one of these in your Club name, we encourage you to use the letter M for Metaverse, such that FC becomes MFC, for instance.

If you want to adopt a team nickname instead, as is common in American sports (i.e. Los Angeles Galaxy), that’s fine too!

3. Think about your location and history

Including your location in your club name can help establish a sense of local identity and pride. Don’t be afraid to do some research into the history of your club’s city and the surrounding area to come up with a name that truly reflects its roots.

Designing a logo for your club is just as important as choosing a name, and can be infinitely more fun… and complex. Here are a few words of advice to create a logo you can be proud of.

Some examples of good (and not so good) Club logos

1. Logo guidelines

  • No offensive or inappropriate imagery or text
  • No copyrighted material, or political, religious, or commercial references
  • Try to make the background transparent
  • Remember, once you complete the Club creation process, you can’t go back! Do your best to build a high-quality identity that will truly represent your club’s values

2. Think big – think small

It’s important to make sure your logo remains identifiable even when it’s very small, so you might want to consider a design that is recognizable even when it’s scaled down.
On that note — it’s a good idea to remove the background color behind your logo before you upload it. It helps with the scaling since there is no wasted space around it, and it’ll look nicer overall in the UI! You can use tools such as this one to do this seamlessly.

3. Make it yours

When designing your logo, make sure it stands out and doesn’t resemble existing sports teams or organizations too closely to avoid legal issues and establish your club’s unique identity.
However, don’t be afraid to draw inspiration from other logos, but make sure to add your own unique twist by incorporating different elements such as emblems, fonts, and colors.
